My Favorite Green Smoothie
I drink a smoothie almost every day and although it is very green this delicious recipe tastes like a peppermint vanilla milkshake! By now we all know that a smoothie is a sneaky way to fit in a generous portion of nutrients into our diet. So sneaky you may even forget it's good for you!
For one smoothie:
1 handful of kale & spinach (I keep a mix in the fridge)
1/2 an avocado, pitted & peeled
1 frozen banana
1 tbsp. raw local honey
1 to 1 1/2 cups almond milk
1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I recommend Vega, see below)
1/2 tsp. peppermint extract (optional)
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.
This smoothie is delicious on it's own, but I personally think the peppermint extract sends it over the top! I should let you know, I am a sucker for all things vanilla & minty. For example: peppermint white mochas at starbucks (drink them year round), white chocolate peppermint bark, mint chocolate chip ice cream...I think you get the point! Trust me on this one, it's delightful.
If you don't have a favorite protein powder give this one a try! I can't say enough wonderful things about it. It is plant based, meaning the protein comes from things like peas & hemp seeds. This nutritional shake has 20 grams of protein, 6 servings of greens, 50% of your daily vitamins, fiber, omega-3s, antioxidants, probiotics, and is still low in calories.
Do you have a favorite go-to smoothie recipe? I am always looking to try new things! Let me know in the comments below.
