DIY Eye Cream: The Power of Rose

Eye cream is a must have. We have heard it from everyone our entire lives how important it is to take care of our skin. I'll be the first to admit that didn't kick in until my 20's. You're young and you think you're bulletproof. The thought of wrinkles is pretty far off. But, the day comes when you look in the mirror and you see lines around your eyes! What the heck! It's like they appeared overnight!

Eye cream can be expensive, especially the good stuff, which makes me extremely excited to share with you my anti-aging beauty secret. I'm a fan of keeping it natural (as much as I can) when it comes to everything I'm putting on and in my body. With only 3 ingredients, this miracle vitamin, antioxidant, & essential fatty acid blend is exactly that; simple, pure, & honest.

The magical ingredients? Coconut Oil, Vitamin E, & Rosehip Oil. Rosehip Oil is reportedly what Kate Middleton, Gwyneth Paltrow, Victoria Beckham, Kristin Cavallari, and supermodel Miranda Kerr use to keep their skin smooth and wrinkle free. Who doesn't want to join this list of beauties with glowing skin!

You probably already know about Coconut Oil and it's amazing benefits for pretty much everything! Coconut Oil contains vitamins & fatty acids that are essential to the growth of healthy skin cells. The Vitamin E & anti-oxidants in it heal and repair damaged skin cells. It is also an anti-inflammatory, so it reduces redness & puffiness under the eyes. And, lastly, the lactic acid in Coconut Oil tightens pores to make skin smooth and firm! Hello, miracle oil!

Watch out Coconut Oil because Rosehip Oil may soon steal the show! Also known as Rosehip Seed oil, Rosehip oil comes from the seeds of a specific variety of rose, the Rosa aff. rubiginosa or Rosa moschata. It is the fruit left behind after a rose has flowered & lost its petals. Those seeds are then cold pressed. This oil is known to reduce fine lines, lighten dark spots, hydrate skin, & even help heal scaring. Rosehip Oil also contains essential fatty acids, vitamin E, vitamin C, & B-carbontene a form of vitamin A. The fatty acids found in Rosehip Oil convert to prostaglandins, which are involved in cellular membrane & tissue regeneration. It is that regeneration that can provide anti-aging benefits. Be sure to keep this oil in the fridge as it can go rancid quickly when left out.

Vitamin E has been known to be good for your skin for so long that we often forget about it. It is another nutrient & antioxidant rich oil. The vitamin E in this recipe helps to keep the Rosehip Oil from going rancid too quickly and also helps keep our eye cream nice & smooth.

What You'll Need:

  • Organic Unrefined Coconut Oil

  • Rosehip Oil (I purchased one already mixed with vitamin E)

  • Vitamin E

  • Small container

  • Mixing Bowl

  • Electric Mixer

  • Measuring Spoons

Whip together 1 TBSP cold Coconut Oil with 6-8 pumps of Rosehip Oil / Vitamin E mixture. If you are purchasing the oils separately, I would suggest 2 capsules vitamin E and equal parts Rosehip oil. There is no wrong way to make this!

Whip until light & fluffy. When kept in an airtight container, eye cream will stay smooth.

I apply the eye cream morning & night after my cleanser & toner. I also apply just the Rosehip oil to my entire face & neck a few times a week. I have oily skin and the Rosehip oil absorbs quickly into my skin leaving it soft & perfectly moisturized.

Are you ready to give this eye cream a try? If you do, let me know in the comments below!
